Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda – June 20, 2025
On a day dedicated to honoring the strength and resilience of displaced individuals worldwide, the Sudan Human Rights Association (SHRA) stood in solidarity with refugees by hosting a powerful celebration in Kiryandongo Refugee Camp, Uganda.
Themed “Solidarity with Refugees”, the event brought together vulnerable community members, humanitarian organizations, and local leaders for a day of advocacy, awareness, and heartfelt connection.

A United Effort: Empowering Refugees Through Community
The event was organized in close collaboration with Cluster C leadership, whose logistical and moral support ensured broad participation. Representatives from local NGOs, UN agencies, and civil society groups came together in a coordinated show of support for refugees living in the camp.
SHRA’s focus was clear: raise awareness about refugee rights, highlight urgent needs, and inspire action from both local and global stakeholders.

Key Highlights of the Day
🗣️ Voices for Change
Speakers from SHRA and partner organizations emphasized the importance of protecting basic human rights and access to services such as healthcare, education, shelter, and food.
Crucially, the event addressed service gaps in the camp, attributing many of them to funding shortfalls—particularly from the United States. An appeal was issued to the international community to respond swiftly to the worsening humanitarian situation.
🧒 Refugees Speak Out
Refugees shared their daily struggles:
- Inadequate security and medical care
- Scarcity of essential medicines
- Difficulty in affording school fees for their children
These testimonies added emotional weight to the event and reinforced the need for sustainable international support.

A Touch of Kindness Amidst Hardship
One of the most touching moments of the celebration came with the distribution of refreshments—cakes, cold drinks, and warm smiles. A seemingly small gesture that became a symbol of hope, dignity, and shared humanity.
This act reminded everyone in attendance that compassion is just as crucial as policy when supporting refugees.
A Message that Echoed: “You Are Not Forgotten.”
The refugees expressed heartfelt gratitude to SHRA for organizing such a meaningful event. More than just a celebration, the day was a powerful reminder that their voices matter—that they are seen, heard, and supported.
“This gathering was more than a ceremony. It was a declaration of solidarity and humanity,” said one community leader.
Why This Matters
With over 120 million people displaced worldwide, events like these are more than symbolic—they are catalysts for awareness, funding, and policy reform. By hosting this event, SHRA not only amplified refugee voices but also renewed the call for global accountability.
